Privacy Policy & Data Guarantee
Effective Date: November 2026 · Built on the principle that your private thoughts, confidential manuscripts, and academic drafts should never touch a remote server.
The Foundational Guarantee: 100% Local Execution
Every metric computed by CleanWordCounter — including word counts, character totals, reading durations, Flesch-Kincaid readability scores, keyword density analyses, and file parsing — executes entirely inside your browser's local JavaScript runtime.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
Unlike traditional web-based text tools, CleanWordCounter is architecturally incapable of storing or intercepting your content. We do not collect, store, transmit, or process:
- Any text, articles, essays, manuscripts, or notes pasted or typed into the workspace.
- Any uploaded documents, including PDF files (.pdf), Word documents (.docx), Markdown files (.md), or plain text files (.txt).
- Personally Identifiable Information (PII) such as your name, email address, physical address, or phone number.
- Keystroke logging or typing cadence patterns.
2. No AI Training or Model Fine-Tuning
Many popular online writing utilities, spell-checkers, and counters secretly harvest user submissions to train commercial generative AI and large language models (LLMs). CleanWordCounter does not participate in AI training. Because your data never leaves your device's memory, it is mathematically and technically impossible for our team, hosting providers, or third-party AI labs to scrape or ingest your creative or confidential work.
3. Document Parsing in Local Browser Memory
When you drag and drop a Microsoft Word (.docx) or PDF document into CleanWordCounter, the binary file is read directly into your device's RAM using client-side WebAssembly and JavaScript libraries (PDF.js and Mammoth.js). The file is parsed into text without triggering a single HTTP POST request.
4. LocalStorage & Session Auto-Recovery
To prevent accidental work loss from accidental browser refreshes, battery failures, or tab closures, CleanWordCounter automatically writes your current editor buffer to your browser's native localStorage under the key cleanwordcounter-draft.
This data remains solely inside your browser's local sandbox on your physical device. It is never synchronized across devices and never uploaded to any cloud. You can permanently erase your stored draft at any time by clicking the Clear button in the workspace toolbar.
5. Cookies and Web Trackers
CleanWordCounter does not use tracking cookies, advertising beacons, fingerprinting scripts, or cross-site behavioral tracking. The only data saved in client storage are your functional preferences (e.g., your selected light/dark theme preference in cleanwordcounter-theme and your optional draft text).
6. Third-Party Infrastructure
Static assets (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WebAssembly bundles, and Google Fonts) are served via GitHub Pages and global Content Delivery Networks (CDNs). These providers may log standard HTTP request metadata (such as IP addresses and user-agent strings) for security, DDoS mitigation, and server health. None of these logs contain or correlate with your workspace text.
7. GDPR and CCPA Compliance
Because CleanWordCounter does not collect, process, or sell personal data, we inherently fulfill the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and international privacy frameworks:
- Right to Erasure: Erasing your browser cookies or clicking "Clear" immediately purges all trace of your work.
- Right to Portability: Your work can be exported instantly to .txt, Markdown, or clipboard at any time.
- No Sale of Data: We do not sell, rent, or monetize user data under any circumstances.
